What Are You Thankful For?
November 21, 2012 By Nadja Borovac
It’s that time of the year in the United States when families and families gather and say “thank you.”
Thanksgiving is also a time of reflection. It’s about taking a moment to appreciate how even the smallest thing – like a digital book and a Kindle – can have a profound influence and create a lasting impact. We see this every day, and it’s surprising and wonderful and emotional every single time. Just look at how Linda’s live has been touched by books, and how reading helps her deal with her biggest challenge in her young life.
On this day (and every day), we thank students like Linda and Kate. They inspire us more than words can express. We thank all of you, too — our donors, partners, friends and colleagues from all corners of the planet and all walks of life. Without you #millionbooks would be just another Twitter hashtag. And, for those of you who may have only heard about Worldreader today or found us somehow on the Web, we hope you’ll join us in our mission to transform the way the developing world reads.
Today, in the spirit of giving thanks, we also ask you to take a minute and help us continue moving our life-changing work forward. There are many more kids, families, schools and communities hungry for e-books.
Please spread the word about @worldreaders via #GivingTuesday. Vote for us on Facebook next week for the American Giving Awards, presented by Chase…we’re one of 25 finalists and have a chance to win a $1,000,000. Or donate via our link on Amazon’s home page. They may seem like small things, but when taken together they create something that will endure beyond a single day marked as a holiday on a calendar. We’re empowering a generation to transform the world through literacy. That’s something we can all be thankful for!
Happy Thanksgiving!
