Colin and David conduct a small trial in a 12th grade English class at Barcelona’s Benjamin Franklin International School.

March

Students at the first Worldreader project in Ghana read on Kindles

A small team travels to Ghana and conducts a trial with 20 e-readers at OrphanAid Africa. Shortly thereafter, Ghana’s Ministry of Education grants us permission to extend our work across the country.

Worldreader is incorporated as a U.S. non-profit organization.

We secure several agreements with publishers in Ghana, including Sam Woode, Woeli, Smartline, and Sub Saharan, to digitize local reading material.

The first iREAD project launches, a partnership with USAID’s Global Development Alliance program and the Ghana Education Service. Under the agreement, Worldreader delivers 500 e-readers to six schools in Ghana and begins M&E (measurement and evaluation) on our work.

2014 UNHCR Worldreader launch in Tanzania

In partnership with the UNHCR, 30,000 e-books are delivered to 2,300 students across four schools in the Mishamo and Katumba refugee settlements in Tanzania.

March

Librarians and students hold Project LEAP Kindles at the Project LEAP launch

In partnership with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we launch Project LEAP (Libraries, E-reading, Activities, Partnership), the first pilot using e-readers in libraries in the developing world. This pilot places over 50,000 e-books in eight Kenyan libraries.

Nuestro proyecto iREAD se inicia en colaboración con el proyecto de Alianza Mundial para el Desarrollo de la USAID (Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional, por sus siglas en inglés) y el Servicio de Educación de Ghana.
